Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It is indeed a bug with the new join system. Because the page no longer refreshed the comment box isn't currently being updated to represent the user has joined a side in the rivalry. To overcome this currently you can simply refresh the page but I will have a fix in place tonight. Thanks! LIBERAL wrote on 8/09/12
Hey there. I'm doing very well. How are you doing? It's been a while. Nice to see you back on here. Sure miss your comments and insights. The Boss wrote on 8/04/12
Please let me know if you encounter any issues when you're on the site today. Also let me know if it seems like the main site and paginated pages load quicker. I just implemented a MAJOR change to the way the websites algorithm works and it should be very beneficial to speed and content that's shown. LIBERAL wrote on 7/28/12
Okay. I can't wait to see what it is. Now I'll just have to sit in utter suspense. LOL. Talk to you later. The Boss wrote on 7/28/12
I've got to try and get our mower running and mow the yard but later tonight I got a good rivalry to put on. Crystal actually spurred the idea but I'm going to put it on. Should be an interesting discussion. FYI, if you respond to this on your wall I don't get a notification. I need to find a better solution, maybe allow replies. The Boss wrote on 7/28/12
Sounds good, It saved then? Yeah, I just wanted to make sure the change I made compromised users ability to edit their own comments. Thanks. LIBERAL wrote on 7/28/12
Okay. I edited my comment adding a sentence or two on the end. I guess that's what you meant. If not just let me know. The Boss wrote on 7/28/12
Rick, on your next comment will you do me a favor and confirm you're able to edit your comment? I just tweaked something because actions on Facebook for admins were adding strange characters. I fixed that but had to modify the normal users ability to edit their own comments. If you could test it and make sure your edited version saves. Whenever you have a second. Thanks! LIBERAL wrote on 7/27/12
Ohhh, okay. I was wondering how in the world they had an ego that big after only joining just recently. Okay. The Boss wrote on 7/27/12
It's me, I had to inflate his ego to enable comment editing capabilities in order to test the new Facebook action updating functionality. Thanks for letting me know. It's a test user facebook allows developers to create in order to test things on facebook. The one down side to facebook is I have to do a lot of Live site testing. LIBERAL wrote on 7/27/12
Hey, I noticed on the People tab a new commenter with the profile pic of Mitt Romney. I looked them up. It's a brand new account with almost 300 ego points. How is that possible? I clicked on recent activity and it showed none? LIBERAL wrote on 7/26/12
I thought I did. I'm sorry. I thought it was automatic after I was already logged into facebook and pulled up JB. The JB page automatically refreshed showing me logged in. I apologize for that. I'm not that computer literate when it comes to these types of things. The Boss wrote on 7/26/12
I don't think the comments action currently posts to your account because I don't think you ever confirmed the Tester status on Facebook but once the bug get's worked out in Facebook they should start posting to your fb wall and by the time I'll have this finished up. Also, I'm going to be adding some ajax to emulate facebooks notification icon; it will refresh in the background and give you a real count of notifications on JB without requiring a page refresh. The Boss wrote on 7/26/12
You're welcomed to know. It has to do with the Facebook Actions that get posted when you add a comment to a rivalry. It works flawlessly aside from a bug in Facebook that's keeping it from posting to non testers of the application. Long story... But what I'm currently testing is I am storing the action_id along with other relevant information from each Facebook OpenGraph action that get's posted. The reason I'm doing this is because the action id is needed in order to allow for the updating or deletion of facebook actions. Let's say you add a comment to a rivalry. It get's posted to your facebook wall as an action. However, you decide within the ten minute window to edit or delete the comment. Well currently you're action doesn't receive the updated information; it stays as originally posted. Once I finish this, the facebook action will get updated to mirror the status of the action on JealousBrother. The Boss wrote on 7/24/12
Of course I knew it was coming. The only thing I wandered was whether it would come before I called it a night and that has no been answered. LMK if you want me to modify the rivalry description at all to avoid any confusion. Grace was working from her phone so she will likely switch sides once she gets to a computer. The Boss wrote on 7/24/12
Rick, I will be sharing your rivalry as a challenge to my Facebook friends later today. FYI, I had to modify the url to the rivalry by taking a - off the end of it and for some reason it wasn't loading correctly into facebook so I tried dropping the quotes off the title. I spent the morning fixing the read more feature as it was definitely needed for your well thought out comment. I have to take Crystal to the dentist and then I will begin formulating a response; this one might take a while. As usual you engage in debates that require real thought, research, and effort. The kind of debates I hope take place regularly on JealousBrother. The Boss wrote on 7/23/12
No worries, I probably will be retiring early tonight. Rachael's been having some issues with being really scared when we put her down at night so I'm probably going to sleep with her tonight to calm her down, so I may not get on it tonight but am off tomorrow so I will be sure to get in on it then. The Boss wrote on 7/23/12
Sounds Good, I look forward to seeing what it's about. Thanks as always for being so active on the website. LIBERAL wrote on 7/16/12
Thanks. I already took that into account. I knew it would do that. In fact it already had. I noticed it, but additional points came off later after I noticed my "friend" had logged in. ;-) The Boss wrote on 7/16/12
No worries Rick, Do what you got to do. One thing to be aware of is the "Debater of the Week" calculates the total votes based the last seven days, not sunday to saturday. So for example, if you you received 9 votes eight days ago then those votes would drop off. I'm sure some of it is foul play but wanted to let you know how that feature works. LIBERAL wrote on 5/12/12
Everything seems to be working just fine. Sorry, I meant to comment earlier. Just never got around to doing so. I'll let you know if I have any issues. The Boss wrote on 5/12/12
Rick, I noticed you got the installed the JealousBrother Facebook app. Is everything working okay? Any issues so far? Thanks The Boss wrote on 3/06/12
You're probably right Rick which is why we limit votes to one per comment. If it's an individual at least you can cancel their votes out with your own. The Boss wrote on 3/06/12
I made the change Rick but you must be currently running a deficit on comment votes so you are still not showing up. You were showing up yesterday so I can only presume your comments have been down voted. Rest assured users cannot vote more than once on each comment. (In fact I'll sign in with a non admin profile to confirm this just in case some recent upgrades have caused any issues.) The Boss wrote on 3/06/12
Hey Rick, I built the Debater of the Week feature and I can assure you the only users who have the ability to vote more than once are admins and there are only three admins, all of which will not alter votes. I will check on something though, I believe I have it set to only show the top five, I'll increase that to top ten and you will likely show up. Just keep in mind the feature runs on a algorithm that focuses on the ratings of your comments in rivalries. Negative rated comments will kill your positive rated comments. So persuading others to see it your way or recruiting like minded friends to get your back is a couple of ways to increase your positive votes. There will always be people who disregard the content of your comment and just down vote you no matter what but there are plenty of users who take the actual comment into consideration when voting; myself included. In the near future I do plan on expanding the feature even further. FYI, if you hover over a users image within Debater of the Week you will see the total positive number of votes the user has received. The Boss wrote on 3/05/12
Yeah, we live in a Verizon black hole. I've had the tower up for a while but just relocated it and had to build a supporting structure to hold it up. Blog post with it pictured before I moved it.; The Boss wrote on 3/05/12
Rick, You probably received several email notification for comments I left on your rivalry that weren't there when you looked on the site. I apologize, I was working on a error that tninfidel pointed out to me where his page breaks weren't populating and were actually replaced with strange characters. Again sorry for the notification emails. I had to add test comments to make sure the problem was corrected. |
