Well there's not much to debate now. The Marathon has been canceled. Looks like common sense or public pressure caught up to the decision makers of New York.
I get the mayors idea but from the few news clips I've seen on Brian Williams show last night I think it's far too soon to be setting up water stations, road blocks, and generators for a marathon when people in New Jersey, New York, and other coastal states are in serious need of power and food. I personally feel this is poor judgement on the mayors part but that's pretty much what I expect from Mr. Bloomberg. Just make sure the marathon runners don't have any 17 ounce cokes Mr. Mayor.
Some of what the Mayor had to say: "Bloomberg said New York "has to show that we are here and we are going to recover" and "give people something to cheer about in what's been a very dismal week for a lot of people."
"You have to keep going and doing things," he said, "and you can grieve, you can cry and you can laugh all at the same time. That's what human beings are good at.""

I was very impressed with Mitt Romney's performance in the debate. For the first time he actually got me a little excited about his campaign. Barack Obama is obviously not nearly as good of a speaker off of the teleprompter and that's not some rude comment, simply an honest observation. Throughout the debate you could see it in President Obamas face that he was really irritated with actually having his Presidency questioned which is something he's been pretty sheltered from considering how biased the majority of the media is.
With that said, the election is still nearly a month away and we have three more debates to go. Something tells me VP Biden is going to have a much harder time debating Ryan than he did with Palin but only time will tell.
In my opinion though Mitt clearly came out on top last night in the debate.
I heard about this and think it's ridiculous! Even if they are doing it for the "right" reasons, American citizens can NOT let this go. What freedoms will they try to control next? And what other cities will follow the lead of NYC? Once you let something like this happen, it is a slippery slope as to what freedom(s) will disappear next!
New York is a beautiful city. Crystal and I have visited NYC on a couple of occasions and greatly enjoyed our visits. With that said, NYC government is on the path to becoming a total nanny state and If I resided in NYC I would be greatly concerned. I would be forced to ask, where does it end? If you look out 20 to 30 years how much freedom will NYC have left? Or I guess the better question, what will the NYC government permit it's citizens to do, eat, and own?
I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers from, because they differ from every source I've read to date. No one making 22,000 a year or less would be forced to pay this (tax) or penalty. Where is your proof of this? Please actually leave a citation. I will certainly leave a couple for you. The fact is that the only Americans who will pay this tax are those who make 4 times the poverty level or approximately $48,000 for an individual and $98,400 for a family of four. That means that this penalty will have no affect on almost 98% of Americans. Please read the following links I have provided for proof of the facts I have discussed. If you have your own I would appreciate seeing them. I am certainly better off than I was four years ago and will gladly vote for Mr. Obama again.
Not that the law would actually be enforced as the current law restricting smokers from smoking within 50 feet of establishments doors is not enforced at all but I think it should be restricted. Redbox contains family movies and should be considered an area where kids will be present and should be treated as such. You disrespectful smokers need to be slapped upside your heads. It's fine if you want to inhale toxic chemicals but my family and I have no desire to breathe that crap in.
