Npmhu Tentative Agreement
The National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU) recently reached a tentative agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS) for a new contract that will affect more than 43,000 mail handlers.
The tentative agreement comes after months of negotiations between the NPMHU and the USPS. If ratified, the agreement would be in effect from 2021 to 2024.
Key provisions of the agreement include wage increases of 1.3%, 1.1%, and 1.1% over the three-year period, as well as a signing bonus of $1,000. The agreement also includes improvements to health care benefits, including a reduction in medical premium contributions and an increase in the employer contribution to the health savings account.
Additionally, the tentative agreement includes provisions for the use of technology, such as the implementation of a new electronic notification system for mail handlers to receive work assignments and a new electronic tracking system for package handling.
Overall, the tentative agreement between the NPMHU and the USPS has been met with mixed reactions. Some mail handlers are pleased with the proposed wage increases and improved benefits, while others are concerned that the use of technology may result in job losses or reduced work hours.
Regardless of individual opinions, the NPMHU and the USPS must still ratify the agreement before it can go into effect. This process may take several weeks or even months to complete.
In the meantime, mail handlers and other postal workers will continue to perform their duties, delivering mail and packages across the country. As the postal service continues to evolve and adapt to changing technologies and new challenges, agreements like this one will be essential in ensuring fair treatment and benefits for workers.
